On the latest episode of Connecting the Dots, we have Alex Tuck, founder and Managing Partner of Tuck Consulting Group. Alex shares his journey of navigating his way out of poverty to becoming a successful entrepreneur and business leader. Alex grew up in Richmond, VA, which also has a reputation for high levels of crime and poverty. Despite this environment, Alex knew he was different and wanted to create a better life for himself.
This inner yearning for a better life stemmed from his mother, a refugee from Cambodia, who also wanted a better life for herself and made the dangerous journey of migrating to the US. Alex describes the different factors that led him into moving to Nicaragua for 4 years, getting into project management, leading the Obamacare implementation for the state of Vermont, and growing Tuck Consulting Group. Tuck Consulting Group is a firm that specializes in project management consulting for small businesses.
After several tenures at large and regional management consulting firms, Alex set out to create a firm focused on better client outcomes through diverse teams with less focus on profit realization rates. He runs this remote-first firm from a farm in Vermont where he lives with his wife and four children.
Through the pandemic, the firm has experienced 15x two-year growth, landing it at #12 on the 2023 Inc. Northeast Regional list, #356 on the 2023 Inc. 5000 list, and on the Forbes Next 1000 list.
In addition to Tuck, Alex has served as a nonprofit board member for several organizations, including a micro-lending nonprofit he co-founded that operates in Central America.
Outside of work, Alex is an avid runner (ask him about his joy of running up mountains on a Saturday morning), enjoys international travel, and spends time with his four kids and partner.
